alex's life book

  • In early 2006, I began creating a life book for my daughter, Alex. Click here for links to articles describing my experience.
  • And for those of you who are more digitally inclined, in late 2006, I recreated key pages of Alex's lifebook for an article I wrote for AlphaMom, using Scrapblog.

You can see the final digital result (and leave comments, if you'd like!) here.

You have to do what is best for you, your family and what fits for your life. I'm excited that you will still be sharing with us. Express yourself!!!

Jen

I'm glad you've come to that decision. It would most certainly not be very fun to just write to entertain. You are an incredibly smart, talented, lovely woman and although web journals are public, I still think you should be writing for you. I'll be sticking around!

Christiana

Well said! Keep posting..fear not we'll keep reading ;) I have to see what Miss Alex is up to on a regular basis nah.

Keep up the good work. Things can only get better from here. Don't worry about whether people agree with you. Maybe you will inspire some new ideas. I originally got here because I'm a new mom via fertility treatments but under slightly different circumstances would have been a new mom via adoption. But now I know more about Trinidad and have seen many beautiful pictures that I wouldn't have seen otherwise.

beachgal

Write whatever you want. I'll still read. I'm mainly a lurker, and only post a little here and there, but I love your site. Your pictures are breathtaking, your daughter is gorgeous and you are a wonderful person. Whether you write for your readers or yourself. Do what you have to!

AidelMaidel

Great! I'm so proud of you. I look forward to hearing so much more from you!

Sylvie

You are such a great writer and I really enjoy reading you expressing your point of view. I say write for yourself, hey I know it doesn't matter but I will still read it. This is such a great blog and you should enjoy writing it and maintaining it. It shouldn't be a task or a chore.
I am looking forward to reading more of the new Chookooloonks.

Julie

Good for you! I think you're a great writer and a classy person and this can only be an enhancement of something that was already excellent. Can't wait to keep reading.

Cat, Galloping

"a bit more balanced, a bit more frank" sounds a LOT more interesting to me! looking forward to it! ooh unless you turn out to be a conservative bush lover, but that seems unlikely.

Busy Mom

You are an excellent writer, I am always eager to read what you write!

tanyetta

YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH CHOOKS!

Karen,

I'm really excited that you've revamped your site. Keep it real as you always have.... I'll be waiting to READ what you have to SAY. I love it!!!!!-Tanyetta

Mir

Amen, girl. I do believe you've just arrived. I'm so glad I'm here to watch.

kate

Good for you. I am having a hard time being comfortable with the person I portray on my blog too. I am glad you decided to do this. Who cares what people say?

Mamachristy

I'm so proud of you! Oh, and glad that you're back, too. I was worried - but that shouldn't matter if you're writing for yourself. ;) So, no more asking us if there's something we want to know about you. You are writing this for YOU and what we want to know is what you want to tell us.

Menita

Go for it.

Mamachristy

Oh. and the rules about posting in your "about" section - perfect. People shouldn't say anything mean to a smart girl - she can be mean right back and it may take a while to even realize it! :)

Sylvie

Sounds great! I love your blog, your photos, your writing... Keep on. I'm trying to convince my husband to take me on a holiday to Trinidad. He now thinks I'm completely mad since he's realized that my interest in Trinidad (and its turtles) has come largely from a blog. Though he did have to admit the turtle were cool.

Sara

Oh Karen,
I am so verklempt over here! I have been intensely ringing my hands at the thought that the life and times of Chookooloonks would be over. I have faithfully followed your blog since you posted your match on Adoption.com. I am so thrilled that not only have you decided to continue the blog, but that you are taking in a direction where you can feel like you are being true to yourself and your beliefs! After all the most important person who this blog will affect is Alex, and I am sure that she will grow up with a strong knowledge and sense of what you stand for and believe in! I am very excited and even more grateful for the continuation and slight graduation if you will of Chookooloonks! Take Care,
Sara

mamaloo

this is an awesome move, Karen. I too find that my blog is "family newsletter-ish" and I self-censor because I know certain people will be reading it. and I hate that. I've actually backed way off my writing because of it. I hope for you (and myself) to find your true, honest voice as you jettison these considerations that hold you back. and I look forward to joining you on this journey!

Michele

Of course you should write for you! And I look forward to reading it.

sinda

perfect.

Amy

Congratulations on the new and lovely site. I always enjoy seeing blogs evolve as the people behind them do. I will keep coming back to read what you have to say.

dave / higher powered

Love the new look. Just keep on keepin' on.

Tanya

I am so delighted with this post. I look forward to reading and learning more about the "real" you...!
