alex's life book

  • In early 2006, I began creating a life book for my daughter, Alex. Click here for links to articles describing my experience.
  • And for those of you who are more digitally inclined, in late 2006, I recreated key pages of Alex's lifebook for an article I wrote for AlphaMom, using Scrapblog.

You can see the final digital result (and leave comments, if you'd like!) here.

Dear Karen
Here is a classic Canadian Children's Poem by the brilliant Dennis Lee
Muffin and Puffin and Murphy and me
Went to Vancouver to swim in the sea.
Muffin went swimming, and swallowed a shark
Puffin saw Whales in Stanely Park
Murphy got lost and went bump in the dark
And I had a strawberry soda
Muffin and Puffin and Murphy and me
Came back from Vancouver, and back from the sea.
Muffin is puffing from eating the shark
Puffin is huffing from Stanley Park
Murphy is frightened to sleep in the dark
But I had a strawberry soda!
From "Garbage Delight" 1977

That's great, Joanne -- thank you for sharing it! Now I'm disappointed we didn't have a strawberry soda -- but we definitely saw the whales and the sharks!

Bee-utiful. Gosh, your site is like a gorgeous breath of fresh air. (For those of us who didn't get one in Stanley Park today!) Thanks so much for sharing.

It does seem that different spots of this grand world do tend to pull us appropriately to them in different seasons of our lives. Our family is feeling the beginings of one of these tugs as well. Maybe. Can't wait to see where and when we are meant to be next.

Hi Karen,

I love your photographs. Enjoy Whistler ... maybe get out and stop at a few of the waterfalls along the way too. There's some beautiful places along the way to get some great photos. Also, if you can, Wednesday night there will be fireworks down in English Bay -- get there early as there will be several hundred thousand people on the beach! (but we prefer to watch it from Kits Point by the Vancouver Maritime Museum) -- it'll be well worth it!

Cheers from Vancouver,
Anthony & Gwen
