alex's life book

  • In early 2006, I began creating a life book for my daughter, Alex. Click here for links to articles describing my experience.
  • And for those of you who are more digitally inclined, in late 2006, I recreated key pages of Alex's lifebook for an article I wrote for AlphaMom, using Scrapblog.

You can see the final digital result (and leave comments, if you'd like!) here.

You DID watch the Godzilla movies right? So you know you should NEVER make fun of Godzilla, who is only the baby, 'cause Big Mama is gonna come out of the depths. Earthquake? Sure, keep telling yourself that...

I'm glad you are allright. Fortunatly here in Portugal we never have earthquakes.

Have a nice weekend!

Writing from Southern California here...

It definitely sounds like you had a "good" one! Glad to hear you're OK and the power is back. Not to alarm you, but brace yourself for aftershocks. They can be almost as strong as the original quake. 8^( Keep us posted.

dj tillahwillah

luckily we were starting our show with a video, or else i would have been live on national television holding on to my co hosts hand with what must have been a look of increasing alarm as that earthquake went on and on and on! it was crazy. haven't heard about any casualties thus far, don't forget, God is a Trini...

God's Child

whoa, that's pretty scary. I've never felt one as strong as that sounded.
Did you ever heard that we should stand in doorways when there are earthquakes? I was taught that as a kid in Jamaica. I dont' know if there's truth to it.

Glad you and your family are okay! Nothing like a little earthquake to remind you that you're happy to be alive.

Yikes! Earthquakes are no fun! Hope everything is ok and there are no aftershocks!

Sounds like Japan. When we lived in Yokosuka we experienced many earthquakes. My husband & I eventually hung up a windchime inside, and everytime there was an earthquake that thing went crazy.
People don't get too excited in Japan over the earthquakes, like we did. Because Japan has the most earthquakes than anywhere I guess.
Living in a huge apartment complex the whole building would sway, my god! But yes, we eventually got used of it.
Until that devasting tsunami, than after every earthquake I would go out to the patio and wait to see if there were tsunami warnings. We had 2 warnings but no tsunamis.
But a whole lot of earthquakes, which didn't frazzle anyone around, but me of course ;)

Hi, glad you're okay!

As for a new song to run through your head...last month a guy at work had "Sister Christian," by Night Ranger as his ring tone on his phone. It ran through my head for a week, and now I'd like to pay it forward.

Oy! I'm glad all is well -- and hope this is a rare occurrence!

Aaagghh!! Thanks a whole bunch! Now I have All Shook Up AND Sister Christian running through my head. I guess I'll just have to add the Oscar Meyer Weiner song to it.....or possibly...Carole King---I feel the earth move under my feet....

I am in SF and we get some of these here. The biggeste one I have ever been in was a 5.5. They always last long enough for you to start to debate whether it is an earthquake or a plane, to realize that the whole house is shaking, to freak out and run to get the kids and then it rolls away. I always hear them first, but it is terrifying....

Glad you are ok.... you guys get hurricanes AND earthquakes. man... scary.

How frightening! I'm so glad you all are okay and Alex is not too freaked out. And another suggestion for the "All Shook Up" remedy jar: I've found that Fergie's "London Bridge" will pretty much exterminate any other songs (or thoughts, even) running through your head. Good luck with that!

We here in the Philippines is a bit immune to earthquakes. Almost every year we get one. You should know not to go out in the streets when there's one.

Something for you and your family.

Scary! Glad y'all are ok!

Living in Jamaica where I have experienced 1 major earthquake I know it can scare the daylights out of you. I love u guys in the twin isles. Remember that your God is on your side.. and we are so happy that u are OK enough to give us the heads up.

An earthquake really is scary, especially if you're not used to them. I experienced one here in Massachusetts a few years ago. I was asleep and awoke in the middle of the night to my bed shaking. I thought a large truck was going by, but then I noticed the pictures on my walls were moving and the walls were shaking. I got up and realized that it wasn't a truck. A day later, I saw on the news that there had been a mild earthquake here.

Jeepers! Glad you are all okay.

I saw the reports of the earthquake and came here from Blogging Baby to see if you all were alright. Glad everyne is safe. How scary!

Kay -- Thanks for the link. Given that our apartment complex is built into the side of a mountain, I'm not sure WHAT I'm supposed to do now, but ... all good advice, just the same!

Bek -- luckily, we actually only get earthquakes. Trinidad is far enough south that most hurricanes form north of us -- we get the occasional tropical storm, but no really hurricanes to speak of, knock wood.

Sara -- Yes, my evil sister is responsible for the "Sister Christian" reference. And if that wasn't enough, she IM'd me all of the lyrics. I've been saying "MOTORIN'!" since yesterday.

I read 6.2 which is enough to scare the pants off anyone.

I lived in SF for years and was in the 1989 Loma Prieta quake. Before that I shrugged them off. No more.

Glad all of you are okay.

Scary. I'm so glad to hear that you and your loved ones are safe.

Serenity Now!

Yikes! Never experienced that, I imagine it would be very surreal. Glad you are all safe.

Oh my goodness! You did have a pretty big one there!!

Glad you are all safe!!

My goodness! I'm glad everything is okay. Stay safe! I'll be thinking of you.
